A simple rating system for the modern web.

UWSC’s Web Clarity Ratings (WCR) help visitors understand who a site is for, what kind of content might appear, and whether there are user interactions or risks — in just a glance.

For visitors

WCR gives you a quick sense of whether a website is family-friendly, teen-oriented, mature, adult-only, or high-risk — before you dive in.

  • Know the audience at a glance
  • See if user-generated content is present
  • Spot potential risks, like gambling or data collection

For creators & owners

Adding a rating is fast: a few meta tags or a small footer badge. No registration required, no paywall, no heavy process.

The five WCR ratings

WCR-E WCR-T WCR-M WCR-A WCR-X

Each rating gives a high-level view of who the site is meant for:

Rating Audience Short description
WCR-E Everyone General audience, suitable for all ages.
WCR-T Teen 13+ recommended. Mildly mature themes or interactions.
WCR-M Mature 17+ content, stronger language, intense themes.
WCR-A Adult 18+ only. Explicit or highly mature material.
WCR-X Restricted Realm High-risk or sensitive domains (e.g., financial instruments, deepfake tools).

Add a rating in under a minute

  1. Decide which rating best fits your site.
  2. Choose descriptors (e.g. UGC, CHAT, NSFW).
  3. Copy the meta tags from the Implement page.
  4. Optionally, add a small badge in your footer.
